Back to the Peninsula Campaign

Comments: Here is another Osprey Campaign Series book, focusing on McClellan's Peninsula Campaign from the landing at Frotress Monroe to J.E.B. Stuart's Ride around McClellan's Army. It is a typical book in the series, with full color plates depicting troops in the campaign, and usually well-rendered maps. However, in this particular book, the map of the Battle of Williamsburg appears to have had its directions switched by 90 degrees. North, by my eye, should be where the map says East. Otherwise, it is a solid entry in the Series, with a nice section at the back focusing on the (non-existent) battlefields today. Unfortunatley, Williamsburg and Seven Pines have been entirely overrun by suburban sprawl, with only a few markers here and there to remind us of what once was. 96 pp., 8 maps |
