Shapiro, Larry (ed.). The Words of Abraham Lincoln. Newmarket Press (April 14, 2009). 113 pages. ISBN: 978-1557048301 $11.95 (Paperback).
In this 200th anniversary year of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, we’ve seen an explosion of Lincoln titles on the market. Included in this list is The Words of Abraham Lincoln, a short title in the Newmarket Words of… Series. The idea behind the book is to include some of Lincoln’s most interesting writings, as selected by Editorial Director of the History Book Club Larry Shapiro. Selections of Lincoln’s writings concerning his bid to become President, his thoughts on love and marriage, his thoughts on how to militarily prosecute the war through letters to his generals, and his thoughts on slavery are all included. This book can serve as an excellent introduction to a man who is now thought to be one of the greatest writers of his generation. Veteran readers of books on Lincoln will find nothing new here, but beginners and those interested in great men will definitely want to purchase this book.
I would like to thank Chris Klotzbach at Newmarket Press.
