Note: This post is one of a series on TOCWOC Reader Tools, tools which allow you the reader to better navigate through what is a rapidly growing blog to find/do exactly what you came here for.
Lijit is a very useful search tool for readers and bloggers which I recently added to TOCWOC. It’s located over in the right sidebar under “Search TOCWOC”.
First, let’s look at what it does for bloggers. Many bloggers post and contribute on their topic at quite a few other sites. I’m no different since I actively participate at numerous Civil War forums, at StumbleUpon, Twitter, and other sites. Lijit allows me to input all of these other sites as well as my current blogroll to be used in the search widget.
And this transitions nicely into how Lijit is useful for you. You can left click on any of the icons just above the search field in the Lijit widget to go directly to some of the other sites I contribute Civil War content to.
Alternatively, after you search for a specific term, Lijit allows you to look at TOCWOC results only, TOCWOC results combined with results from other web sites I contribute to, or my entire network including the other blogs in my blog roll! This allows you to quickly and easily find a LOT of information on your search term, both here at TOCWOC and around the Civil War blogosphere.
This isn’t even the coolest part of Lijit, though, IMHO. Instead, in my mind, the most interesting feature is the “Research” feature. After you’ve searched for a specific term or after you reach TOCWOC through a search engine, the Lijit widget shows a Research area which gives you other possible posts or pages from TOCWOC and from the entire Civil War blogosphere!
Like I said, this is a very powerful tool which you can use to quickly and easily find what you are looking for here at TOCWOC – A Civil War Blog. Try it out today!

Brett, thanks for the awesome explanation of Lijit. I love it when our users understand our value and express it so clearly.
IMHO, the stats that we deliver to blog publishers are a huge part of Lijit’s value as well. We help you to be a better blogger by telling you what searches are being done on your blog, where your readers are coming from and what searches they’re doing that return no results. This way you can provide even better content for your readers.
Thanks again for your support and if any of your readers have questions, be sure to send them my way. I’m tara {at} lijit {dot} com and I’m happy to help!
