It’s been a little while since our last Civil War Odds & Ends, and I’ve seen some pretty interesting Civil War related material on the web lately.
- The Tipsy Historian shows us the faces of Company I of the 57th Massachusetts, a regiment which saw itself decimated in Grant’s Overland Campaign of 1864. The 57th Massachusetts is also the subject of Mother May You Never See the Sights I Have Seen, one of the best regimental histories I have ever read.
- I recently stumbled on information about Baptism at Bull Run, a new Civil War block and maneuver game, over at Board Game Geek.
- Evan and his loyal entourage provides a look at the Shaara family’s Civil War trilogy from the perspective of a non-Civil War buff.
- War and Game profiles Union cavalry general James H. Wilson and links to a review of Brent Nosworthy’s Roll Call to Destiny.
- Midlist Writer gives some props to Two Trails and Camp Pope, two small presses publishing on the Civil War.
- A look at another Civil War classic, this time Shelby’s Foote’s trilogy, from Tasty Morsels.
- A look at facial hair in the American Civil War from the other side of the Atlantic.
- Stephen Rubin’s Law Blog details the author’s plans for “Operation Overland”, his personal trip to the battlefields of Grant’s 1864 Virginia Overland Campaign.
- The Fort Myers (FL) News-Press looks into the research done by author Robert Macomber for his series of historical fiction titles focusing on the adventures of fictional naval officer Peter Wake.
- More information has surfaced on Yetisburg, a game combining the Civil War and monster mythology.
