One Year Anniversary

Today marks one full year of blogging for myself, Fred Ray, Johnny Whitewater, and several other guest bloggers. I wanted to take a brief moment to thank the Civil War and wargaming enthusiasts who make up the vast majority of the readers of this blog. It’s been a lot of fun, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. While I feel others have much more experience and knowledge of the war (Dimitri Rotov, Eric Wittenberg, Drew Wagenhoffer, and others come to mind), I hope that this blog has proven at least somewhat interesting and informative.

Look for continued posts in the “Today in the Petersburg Campaign” series, the last few blog entries regarding Eric Jacobson’s new book on Franklin and Spring Hill, the last few entries on Ambrose Bierce’s Complete Short Stories (his “tall tales”), and a renewed commitment to the “Gaming” portion of Gaming & Reading. In addition, my plan is to continue to feature at least one book review a week, usually on Thursdays or Fridays, and to continue to provide short summaries of the various Civil War magazines I subscribe to. I have wandered away from wargaming articles a bit over the months, and I assure any wargamers reading this that it was completely unintentional. Matrix Games in particular has quite a few new Civil War games coming down the pipeline, so you’ll hear plenty I’m sure as I purchase and play them. In addition, if I find the time, I’d like to do an AAR on one of The Gamers’ Civil War Brigade Series or GMT’s Glory series. I don’t want to make any promises as far as that goes, however.

In any case, here’s hoping year two goes as well as year one did, and thank you for reading!
