Rolf Hall's Scenarios:
Updated 03/09/05
Rolf has created many sets of scenarios, one is his previously well-known work on Grant's early test at the Battle of Belmont. The second is a new set of scenarios concerning the Battle of Plymouth in 1864, the third involves an early battle over Kentucky at Logan's Crossroads, while the fourth involves another Kentucky clash at Middle Creek. . I've played Rolf's BG version of Belmont a few times and have always liked the battle. Now he has converted it to Corinth. Rolf has also done a series of scenarios featuring battles from Burnside's 1862 Expedition against the coast of North Carolina. As always, feel free to contact Rolf and offer congratulations or advice.

Notes |

As
I stated above, Belmont was Ulysses S. Grant's first test in Battle,
and he provided a mixed performance at best. You will need Ken Miller's
latest leaders.bmp file to play. |

The
Battle of Logan's Crossroads (Mill Springs) in Kentucky ocurred on January
19, 1862. What was to become a Union Division in the Union Army of the
Ohio (and later Cumberland) under George Thomas faced a Confederate
force under Felix Zollicoffer. The Rebels did well at first, but Zollicoffer
was killed, throwing them into confusion. This looks like an interesting,
short little battle to play, and Rolf has created a few variants to
explore a few what-ifs. |

NEW 08/12/03 |
The
Battle of Middle Creek in Kentucky ocurred on January 10, 1862. This
is another in Rolf's ongoing series of smaller early ACW battles fought
in the state of Kentucky. Middle Creek was more of a skirmish than a
battle, but the potential for a heavier fight was there. Union troops
under future President James Garfield took on Confederates under Humphrey
Marshall. The result was a Union victory that secured Eastern Kentucky
for the North. |

This is the third battle in Burnside's
North Carolina Expedition of 1862. Burnside sent a Division to attack
a rumored Confederate Gunboat being built, while only a small Confederate
roadblock stood in the way. |

Roanoke Island was the first of Battle of Burnside's North Carolina Expedition of 1862. It resulted in a resounding Union success and the Union had a foothold along the Carolina Coast from this point on in the war. |

On March 11, Brig. Gen. Ambrose E.
Burnside’s command embarked from Roanoke Island to rendezvous with Union
gunboats at Hatteras Inlet for an expedition against New Berne. On March
13, the fleet sailed up the Neuse River and disembarked infantry on
the river’s south bank to approach the New Berne defenses. The Confederate
defense was commanded by Brig. Gen. Lawrence Branch. On March 14, John
G. Foster’s, Jesse Reno’s, and John G. Parke’s brigades attacked along
the railroad and after four hours of fighting drove the Confederates
out of their fortifications. The Federals captured nine forts and 41
heavy guns and occupied a base which they would hold to the end of the
war, in spite of several Confederate attempts to recover the town. |
