This author is a very good writer in my opinion, and he is an expert on both Battles of Manassas. It's very easy to read one of his ACW books completely through in one sitting, even if they are hundreds of pages long! This is a shorter book than McDonald's from above, and makes for a nice, exciting read. The maps aren't great, but they're much better than those in the Johnston book. All in all, this book would be a fine buy if you only need one 1st Bull Run book in your collection and you're not a scenario designer. 165 pp., 11 maps
