Comments:

Stephen King is a good writer. Stanley Kubrick is a good director. Jack Nicholson is a good actor. And I do think The Shining is a good movie, but not quite as good as a lot of people. The movie stars Nicholson as a writer who decides to take a job as the winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel. He figures he'll get plenty of peace and quiet to concentrate on writing, while his wife (played by the annoying Duvall) and son explore the massive hotel. Unfortunately for him, this place is haunted. Nicholson is slowly driven mad by the malevolent influence of the hotel, or its ghostly inhabitants. And his wife and kid are placed directly in harm's way because of it. Every horror fan should watch this movie, and it does get a pretty high rating from me. 8.2 on IMDB.com is impressive, good enough for #88 all time at the moment I am writing this. However, it does not achieve all-time classic status for me. This is still worth buying though.
