Comments:

The Ghoul is a 1933 British horror film starring Boris Karloff after he had been made famous playing the monster in Frankenstein in 1931. This film was believed to be lost for many years, but a print was found in Chechoslovakia in the 1960's and this DVD features a restoration of that print. It is still very dark in places (even watching the movie in the pitch dark as I normally like to do), but it is a very watchable version. As is stated in other places, people who tend to like the slasher flicks of the 1980's will not really enjoy this film. If, however, you are a fan of 1930's horror as embodied by Universal like myself, you will have some fun with this one. The plot revolves around Karloff as a dying Egyptologist who believes a gem he owns called The Eternal Light will allow him to rise from the grave. However, he wasn't counting on thieves to ruin the proceedings...
