Comments:

I'm a fan of John Carpenter and I'm also a big H.P. Lovecraft aficionado, so this movie was right up my alley. While not directly based on any of Lovecraft's stories, Lovecraftian themes were definitely present in this movie. In The Mouth of Madness is a solid film, and one that had me liking it a lot, although the ending was a bit of a letdown personally. John Trent (Neill) is an insurance fraud investigator, and he is hired by Arcane Publishing to go find their missing best selling author Sutter Cane. Trent finds the supposedly fictional town of Hobb's End, and the Lovecraftian descent into madness begins. Trent no longer knows what is real and what is fiction, and it seems no one else does either. I would definitely recommend this as a rental, and if you like Lovecraft or Carpenter, this is a solid buy.
