Rich White's Scenarios:
Updated 06/30/04
Rich White has created a very interesting series of company level scenarios based on the Early American War series from HPS. The first scenario depicts Blackburn's Ford just prior to the First Battle of Bull Run, while the second focuses on the Battle of Big Bethel on the Virginia Peninsula. The PDT files are modified so that each scenario plays like one from HPS' Early American Wars (EAW) series of games. In other words, the map scale is 125 feet per hex, turns are 5 minutes, and the basic unit is a company of infantry or cavalry, along with single pieces of artillery.

This
should be a very interesting game, as it is basically a port of HPS'
smaller-scale Early American Wars series of games, but is set during
the Civil War. The files are meant to be used with Campaign Corinth.
I highly encourage anyone who has not played the EAW games yet to try
this scenario. It should give you a good idea of what the EAW games
(1776, War of 1812, French and Indian War) feel like. The scenario depicts
a Union thrust aimed at Blackburn's Ford across Bull Run just a few
days before the First Battle of Manassas. |

This
was the first land battle in Virginia, fought on June 10, 1861. Maj.
Gen. Benjamin F. Butler sent converging columns from Hampton and Newport
News against advanced Confederate outposts at Little and Big Bethel.
Confederates abandoned Little Bethel and fell back to their entrenchments
behind Brick Kiln Creek, near Big Bethel Church. The Federals, under
immediate command of Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Pierce, pursued, attacked frontally
along the road, and were repulsed. Crossing downstream, the 5th New
York Zouaves attempted to turn the Confederate left flank, but were
repulsed. Unit commander Col. T. Wynthrop was killed. The Union forces
were disorganized and retired, returning to Hampton and Newport News.
The Confederates suffered 1 killed, 7 wounded. |
