Anti-Spambot

Although I'm only 28, I've managed to amass a pretty decent Civil War library for myself. This list keeps growing every month. Below you will find a list of every Civil War related book I own, and a brief description of what I thought of it along with the number of pages and maybe the number of maps. Feel free to e-mail me at acwbooks@brettschulte.net if you have read any of the below books and want to comment on them. I'll be glad to post your comments on this page.

The War in the West:

Unlike the war in the East, the Western Theater still has many subjects begging to be given a definitive full book-length treatment. With the exception of McClellan's Peninsula Campaign and possibly the Petersburg Campaign, I prefer the West. From Belmont and Wilson's Creek, to Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Viscksburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and the Atlanta Campaign, the West is full of fascinating battles and campaigns. Some of the better authors in this genre include Peter Cozzens for Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and Corinth; Ed Bearss for his masterful 3-volume work on the Vicksburg Campaign; Kenneth Noe for his work on Perryville; and Albert Castel for his nice volume on the Atlanta Campaign. Much information has remained untapped out West, and fans of this Theater such as myself hope that changes in a big way in the coming years. Authors, publishers, are you listening? I'd much rather have a book on a new Western campaign anyday rather than see the 5000th book on Gettysburg. I may be exaggerating slightly, but you get my drift.
